I think the sentence is excessive. He did not kill a person but a loyal police dog and should have got twenty years.

it wasn't only for killing a police dog but previous crimes. Don't they have a three strikes and you are out policy in some US states.

Not exactly, Barry. In your link, you can see how the sentencing was broken down. It would appear that he actually got 3 years for assaulting the dog.

He was an armed robber - if a cop had gone in instead of the dog he would likely have shot them. Better he's off the streets.

I thought that he had received the sentence due to the 3 strikes system.

In some states (I have been told) that the law treats the killing of a police dog as the same as the killing of a human officer.

In this country we have Finn's Law.

I'd like to see heavy sentencing here in the UK for lowlife scumbags such as this excuse for a human being. A decent sentence? Absolutely!

It only bothers me, that whether dogs or people, we judge their worth on their jobs.
For killing a dog, I would say the 10 years is about right.

For me, the longer the sentence the better.

Humans join the Police Force knowing what might, unfortunately, lie ahead for them, and then they make the choice. Sadly, dogs aren't that fortunate. For me, shooting the dog is worse than shooting the copper.
