I can answer the second bit. The first 'famous' conjoined twins came from Siam (as it was then) I think in the late 1800's. Since then conjoined twins have been called Siamese. I think they were called Ying and Yang, or am I just getting confused with that tear drop circular symbol thing? Presumably Siamese cats originally came from Siam as well.
