'Cos Seagulls don't exist?
Because you mean Herring Gulls
^I was wondering if anybody would get in before me with that, Tilly.
Flying rats....
Baldric used to get quite upset and stroppy with people who talked about seagulls.
I wonder what happened to the Herne Bay menage
what happened to Balders and his harem? - sorry to digress.
Living at the coast here people just refer to them as "seagulls" though there are several types of gull. They are messy pests and various ways have been tried to get rid of them but without success. I can't forgive the one which stole my fish supper while sitting at the harbour!
Who remembers Jonathan Livingstone Seagull?
I still have my copy.
They are in many places in the UK
I can't forgive the one that pooped on my head in the city centre years ago.
A lot of Humans are vicious and a crowd places out making more mess than gulls. Why can't we cull them?
There ar six types of gull in the UK. And others that visit They don't bother me unless they poo on my head!

Why is that [hu]mans response to things that annoy them? Bit extreme really.
I love the Gulls we get here in Essex and also lots of them to see along the Thames. Clever little things really.
I remember that Tilly. It was given to me by a boyfriend years ago. I thought it was so deep and romantic of him. What a load of baloney looking back.
There was a big hoo ha last year when one town put nets over their buildings to prevent them roosting and nesting - what makes humans think they are more entitled to live than other creatures?
There was a big hoo haa when businesses and councils used anti-homeless measures to prevent people dossing down in doorways and on public benches, too. Sometimes we treat people like other creatures
The damage guano causes to buildings is worrying and the cost of cleaning it up can be many thousands of pounds. It is such a problem that Scarborough council will pay a grant of 50% (up to £2k) to homeowners to install anti-gull measures.
It is heartbreaking to see the damage caused to great buildings of historical and architectural significance as well as the very real health hazard, especially to the people who have to clean it up. It's not just gulls, kittiwakes and pigeons compound the problem.

Nesting herring gulls are very aggressive and will attack - it is not funny for those living with a nest on their roof, here is one example https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/angry-seagull-pecks-chunk-out-27606256

When the menace start paying rent they might have more right to crap all over everything or generally leave a midden in their wake.

Until then apply extreme measures to manage them.
