Good Morning,

I have a real issue with mould in my car.  I have currently having it valeted but how do I stop it coming back again?

Do I need to leave a window open a smidge?

Sometimes the water is running off the windscreen (inside) and its takes mounds of kitchen roll to dry it off.

Thank you

Needs a thorough check - water could be getting inside the doors through the door window seals. Check the drain holes at the door bottoms - they may be blocked. Lots of other possibilities.

Sounds like water is getting in somewhere. Friend of mine had a problem with water in the passenger footwell. Took a lot of investigation but was eventually found to be a leak around the windscreen. He had the windscreen removed & re-installed. (VW Golf)

davebro3,

thank you for your response, I don't have any standing water, I checked the windscreen as that was my first thought by letting the hose fall on it and checking for drips but could not see any.

It did improve for a few days when I put a mobile dehumidifier in the car but as soon as it was 'full' it was as bad as before.

Rear screens leak as well as front screens. The water doesn't gush through; it just seeps slowly, creeps along and emerges somewhere out of the way. Check your carpets and boot for dampness.

what sort of car and how old is it - I had an old vectra that collected water in the scuttle that was supposed to drain but a few leaves blocked it up - when it overflowed it came into the car. Unblocking it was simple and solved the problem.

Feel the carpets under the mats for moisture.

Also lift the spare wheel (if you have one)

If you find moisture it gives you an idea where to check.

Sometimes it is through rear lights or high level brake light.

squitty @ 10.59...that is a common problem in some makes. The big empty space at the base of the windscreen (officially called the "plenum chamber") can be examined when the bonnet is up. The drain holes get blocked and rainwater seeps into the car.

You've obviously got moisture getting in somewhere.

Given that you are experiencing large amounts of water on the inside of the windscreen, this would suggest that a ventilation air-intake has become waterlogged (as others have suggested).

Some of this water (located close to the front of the car cabin) then evaporates and condenses on the windscreen.

The other possibility which happened to me is the tiny tube carrying water to the rear windscreen washer had perished and was leaking. The car smelt like a swamp. Does your rear washer work? If not it could that it's leaking before it gets to the back of the car.
