love story from school

When i was at middle school i remember the teacher reading a short love story, i can't remember much of it, basically it was along the lines of this; there was a stampede of bulls or horses heading directly towards two lovers, they hid the other side of a rock in the ground but they knew this would not be enough to protect them from being trampled to death so the man lay on top of the woman to sheild her, prepared to sacrifice his own life to save hers but at the last minute just as the bulls / horses are about to land on them she rolls over so that she is the one covering him so she ends up being trampled to death to save the life of the man she loves. Does anyone know anything of this story?
