Sir David thinks so and I agree. The charm of the show was partly to do with the tendency to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. What do we think.

Yes I've always thought so. The point of the show was his chasing the dream, not achieving it.

I agree, all the ducking and diving and the 'unreachable' dream was what drew the characters close. It was brilliant

Bloody heck Don't tell me Del Boy has joined the Con Club🤣

It was of its time and contained a couple of gems.

Yes oddly enough in the very episode after they sell the watch, they gravitate back to NMH and Del actually says: "I've always wanted to be a millionaire....but it's not like I thought it would be" - He clearly misses the chase, the ducking and diving etc. It's as if Sullivan himself was having second thoughts.

The point of the s 19965how was his chasing the dream, not achieving it.

Theme of 'Half a Sixpence' wiv rolla Tommy Steele 1965. He learns that lulu is not the important thing thro bitter experince

and then the final scene is " Tarmy - you have been left another fortune!" Tommy - - "phew"

Perhaps that was the intention of the producers - to end it , leaving it nowhere to go

However , it could have continued with them losing all the dosh through some dodgy investments forcing them back to their wheeler dealing days

You can never go back.

"However , it could have continued with them losing all the dosh through some dodgy investments forcing them back to their wheeler dealing days"

Which, of course, is exactly what was portrayed in the 2001 Christmas Special.

By that time, Buster Merryfield (Uncle Albert) had died and so there was the loss of that character for John Sullivan to deal with.

The last regular series ended in February 1991. The show was then restricted to Christmas Specials: in 1991 (a two-parter where they go to Miami and Del is mistaken for a Mafia Don), 1992 and 1993. "Time on our Hands" (the episode where they get rich) was the last of three episodes aired over Christmas in 1996.

If the series was to end (and as I said, I think it had run its course) that would have been a fitting finale. The closing sequence of that episode saw Del and Rodders stroll off into the sunset.

So I have to diagree with Sir David - I think the mistake was to bring it back with them having lost the lot.

Favourite Episode?  The Jolly Boys' Outing.

I loved it all.  Superb comedy.  My favourite was the 'cwying' episode.  Cwying with laughter just at the thought of it.  😂

Oh - and the chandelier!

Trigger's Broom and Jolly Boys' Outing were comedy gold.

Oh my life, they will never make anything that funny again.

The Jolly Boys' Outing for me as well, with honourable mentions for Mother Nature's Son and Danger UXD.

I'm still more than happy to watch the episodes after Uncle Albert died as there's still classic John Sullivan lines.

Sir DJ deserved every award going just for the look on his face when the bus blew up!

Many funny moments

From the hand gliding episode

''Is that our carphone I can hear ringing Rodney?

'No! We ain't got a carphone! '

I tend to agree, but the auction episode where they made the fortune was hilarious IMO.

The Batman episode was also very funny, especially when they rounded it off with Trigger's "You wouldn't have won the Fancy Dress though, you were OK Dave, but Del wasn't a bit like Tonto"

Bar only one* I have seen all the episodes countless times, and even though I can almost be verbatim with what is about to come, it still makes me roar out loud.

*I've never seen the episode in Miami in full. I've tried on more than one occasion, but it just didn't work for me.

judge: 14:58 "So I have to diagree with Sir David - I think the mistake was to bring it back with them having lost the lot." - well I think making them millionaires would have been a fitting end. I think the error was bringing it back for 3 more xmas specials. I think "Time on our hands" was intended to be the last episode but TV people being what they are contrived to bring it back.

curlyfries: "Sir DJ deserved every award going just for the look on his face when the bus blew up!" - love that, remember the line after: "Don't worry arry, I won't tell your guvnor!"

deskdiary: That's the sign of true comedy - I get that with the Two Ronnies racing pigeon clip - although I know what's underneath it, I still LOL when RC lifts the cover off the cage to reveal the completely placid duck.
