Can anyone please explain why this is atom? I get the elementary particle but not the derivation. Thanks. Sam

The first half of the alphabet are the letters A to M (atom)

 

Except an atom isn't an elementary particle, they're electrons, quarks, photons, etc. Hey-ho, I suppose there must be some leeway as it's a crossword clue.
