I have a Chinese hamster, she is 20 months old. Last night she was scratching her head excessively and has made a little patch on the top of her head bald and it has been bleeding quite alot, her eye also seemed to be partly closed but seems ok now. Her cage is always kept clean and she doesn't seem to be scratching anymore as far as I can tell, she still seems as active, what could this possibly be? I am very worried and would much appreciate some advice.

I would recommend taking her to the vet. It's possible she may have mites, and the vet may be able to recommend a way of treating this as it can be very uncomfortable.

It could be mites as they do suffer with them . Also it could be the bedding ittitating it. Do you use sawdust or flakes... I had a hamster that kept suffering with sore eyes and it turned out to be the sawdust.

I would recommend a visit to the vets.
