Why are elephants portrayed as being scared of mice? Is there any truth in this??!

Unfortunately, elephants aren't as scared as mice as we've been lead to believe.

The reason that this could have come about is the fact the elephants tend to get nervous if they hear a sound but can't identify the source - such as a mouse scurrying around, which is common in zoo environments.
i worked with elephants and they were never scared of mice!!!

Rio - how interesting! We dont get many elephants wandering around here in Kent!!


I always thought the reason was they get startled by fast moving small objects - makes them uneasy.
