From little acorns...

I have recently been give a bag of acors, some of which are 'sprouting' I wish to plant them at the bottom of one of my paddocks.

Does anyone have any experience of this - should I grow them in pots first and if so for how long, what time of year can I plant them out , any good tips on rabbit defense etc. Many Thanks

I'm presuming you'e found out already as this was posted so long ago! But - acorns grow happily in pots from spring onwards outdoors (after last frosts) or indoors in a warm window if you want to start them early. Once they have established they can be planted out in the position you want them to remain in - grow them in pots for the first year, then place protectors around them to prevent rabbits making a meal of them. A word of warning - if you graze horses in your paddocks, acorns are poisonous if eaten in large quantites.
