What my dog eats

Whilst out walking with my 8yr old rescue labrador bitch (spayed) she frequently will eat wood and earth. My dog is fed on one of the more expensive dry food mixes, which claim to have no additives, colourings etc.

Any ideas why she eats wood etc. Could her diet be lacking in something. I do not think she does this to get attention as I have ignored the fact that she eats what I would rather she did not when we are out. I should add that my dog suffers from convulsions, for which my vet has not prescribed medication.

does she always eat the earth in the same place? My dog has two particular spots on one regular walk where she will dig up and eat earth, she doesn't do it anywhere else. I have seen other dogs do the same thing in the same places ansd assume that there is something particular in the soil. It doesn't seem to do her any harm
My lab ate some soil that was spilt on some cobbles the other night. I could hear his teeth scraping off them as he was trying to dig it out! It's the first time he's done it
