Cat poo

How can I stop someone's cat pooing in my garden.? I have nothing against this animal but don't consider it's droppings too be very safe in my garden due to my young son. I also think it is a bit unfair I should have to clean up after or suffer the 'unpleasant part' of someone elses animal. All views/ solutions very gratefully rec'd. Thanks

I have suffered from this problem for a number of years, since my next door neighbour moved in with three cats, all of whom seem to regard the gravel outside my lounge window, and by my garage, as their own giant litter tray. First things first - remove any droppings, and disinfect the area thoroughly. Then spread some moth balls around - a little uslightly, but they do work, remember to replace them every few weeks. If that fails, hang a few strips of cooking foil where the wind can blow them - apparently cats hate the sound. One or both of these solutions should work. best of luck!
We have tried everything! Mothballs, hosepipe (looks like a snake), half filled lemonade bottles(cats don't like the reflection), lion dung, bits of rose branch hidden just under the soil, metal cats with marbles for eyes, a myriad of sprays and potions, fruit netting on the flower beds. NOTHING WORKS!!!!!! Am now going to see my local farmer and borrow his 12 bore! I know it will cost me a nights sleep, but 15 years of retribution(is this the right word?) will be very sweet.

IS SHOOTING CATS LEGAL: Not under UK law. According to the Protection of Animals Act 1911 (which covers cats, which are classed as domestic animals) you cannot cruelly ill-treat, beat, kick, infuritate, terrify or torture a cat, or cause unnecessary suffering. Full details of the legal situation can be found at http://www.cathate.co.uk/thelaw.htm
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it just dog poo that can cause blindness in children (and not cat poo)? Personally, I'm not too bothered by small lumps of cat poo around my garden - it is easily cleared up. I am much less tolerant of the huge dollops of smelly dog poo that appears on my lawn and all over the pavements and recreation areas everywhere. All in places that my kids are much more likely to get covered in it (and maybe cause blindness).
in my view its quite simple, rob the nearest army barracks, and put down some carefully placed radio detonated blocks of c4, the sit maliciously in a front facing room at the window with a detonator and a big smile on your face and pussy goes bye bye, it'll get the message.. if it lives! (disclamer, i im only joking mr army people.. dont worry, no need to step up security on yer bases)
otherwise if you are more nature loving and dont want to harm the little ummmm.... darlings, you can buy sleeping pills, put these crumbled up in something the cat will eat (say.. i dunno, prawns) and then place in yer garden, when you wake up the next morning you should see lots and lots of dozing pussys, you can then do as you wish with them (but by law ur not allowed to kill them) so put them in a box (with air holes of course) and mail to malibu or knuzden or afganistan or somewhere like that :-)
if even that seems to drastic you could just put 100m high electrified fences around your house, this would stop cats but would also bump up your power bill, which greenpeace etc might not like being in the age of energy saving etc! also i doubt your house would ever get burgled! the downside of this is you will be called a hermit, but draping lights over the powered fence at christmas would make a very nice home illumination system!! (mind you, id prefer a whole hog 3 and sum mac 500's myself) ps, if you dont know what the hell im on about please look at the question: understanding matts insane ramblings!
I'm sure you can buy a spray that you put on to your soil and plants, it doesn't harm either of the above but appartently cats detest it and don't come near. I know of this because I have the same problem with a couple of cats across the road who use my garden as a toilet and it was only till I'd handled one of their white crusted you know whats that I started looking into the same thing!
