Following on from 'Show us...', what's the best way to take a photo of a pet? I'd like to take one of my cat - sleeping poses are not a problem(!), but I want to get one when his eyes are big (pupils dilated) - which would mean its dark, which would mean I'd need flash, which would come out as a scary-eyed devil-cat photo...

If you want 'devil cat' pictures, then you are correct in your assumption that you will need flash photography in a darkened house, or night time garden/back lane. Out door photoghaphs tend to be the best, though difficult, as cats are usually very unco-operative. And you'll need some patience to get a good picture. Also, avoid bright sunshine and sky back grounds.
