help please help me

i have a rat and hes vedry old now but hes started behaving very strangley he keeps trying to climb as high as he can and i dont no why please could someone help

I know nothing about rats, but maybe he is losing his eyesight and although he likes climbing, he finds descending an intimidating prospect. So the only way to go is up as it is much easier to ascend than to descend.
