Windows 98SE & 256 Colours
4 Answers
Hi, I've got a Gateway PC which I've recently reformatted and reinstalled Windows 98SE. Everything seems to be working fine except I can't get the monitor set up to work with 256 colours. At the moment it is stuck on 16 colours and I need 256 colours to run some of my games. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the video adapter and the monitor but after the computer restarts it keeps changing the settings back to 16 colours. Any suggestions on how to solve this little problem??

You will need to determine the video card you have installed and load a driver in for it. I don't know if you can find the driver via the gateway website, if not, try and find the serial No or some identifier on your motherboard (if the video is integral). If you have the driver on a disc which came with your computer, you may find there is more than one driver, and you need to be sure you are installing the right one.
Thanks for all your help
It took a while to find the correct driver for my video card but I used a program from this website http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html and that told me the exact make and model of my card. I then went to http://www.driverguide.com/ and downloaded the driver from there. Thanks again!!!
