Depends... simple answer is the average is 238,855 miles
But it could also be 225,700 miles at the perigree or 252,000 miles at it's apogee...

I'm not sure to be exact, but I think it's somewhere in the region of 240,000 miles - about two seconds in light speed.

I would ask this question on the "Science" topic peterpiper1.

Whooops! You beat me to it Clannad.

Good one though.

Great minds running... and all that Outdoorsman!
best get a bit more petrol then ;)

just over a second in light speed.

186,282 miles per second, but the distance is as mentioned above.

Interesting set of facts and figurs! Is it true that the sun is exactly three times the size of the moon and exactly three times the distance from the earth, resulting in it appearing exactly the same size in the sky ? I'm sure I read this somewhere.

Oei, I don't think that's right thunderbird. I thought the distance to the sun was something like 93mil miles - and the size of the sun is certainly bigger - about 400 times the size of the moon, if I remember right. Someone might give the exact distances.
