How much sleep does a young puppy need. I have a 7 week old jack russell puppy who is fit and healthy. He is eating well and is very playful but after about half an hour of running around he gets in his bed and sleeps for approx 2 hours, wakes up and continues like this all day. Is this normal for him to sleep this much? I would appreciate any comments as I have not owned a dog as young as this before.

Yep, this is normal, my dog (who's now 7) used to be exactly the same except he used to be too zonked to actually make it into his bed to sleep- he'd just drop like a stone and sleep wherever he landed!

don't worry this is very much the norm, puppies sleep loads and tire easily, just like babies, jack russells are great dogs i have one my self.

Sleeping is a very important part of devleopment - they grow when they are asleep! Please don't let him be disturbed when he's asleep, he will wake up soon enough. Just make sure you let him out for a wee as soon as he does wake up, and you will find house training much easier.

He is very young, most puppies don't leave their mams til 8weeks. The sleeping is totally normal but please don't exercise him too much! It's very important you keep it minimal as he's still so young!
