My current dog(labrador) doesn't do it much but our old dog(boxer/border collieX) used to do it all the time. He would be fast asleep but his legs would twitch like he was dreaming about running and he would make muffled barking noises at the same time. I'm sure it would have been investigated whether or not they do dream, if only they could talk!

I'm positive they do - our old Golden Retreiver used to do it all the time - she'd be asleep at the bottom of the stairs in the hallway and you'd hear her yelping from the living room! It was very funny to watch as her feet would be twitching like mad and she'd be curling her lip up as well.

My cat also does it - his feet, ears and tail quite often twitch noticeably when he's sleeping deeply.

I'm sure Mum & Dad's dog used to dream. He used to twitch too & make whimpering sounds in his sleep.

Our cat used to twitch in her sleep!

Both our dogs do it - in a deep sleep their legs twitch loads...looks like they're running in their sleep, so we just comment how 'oh, he's chasing after something again!' But I don't know if/what they're really dreaming about - have wondered lots of times though!
My dod does it all the time he succles and woofs and wriggles all over the place when hes asleep. But in short all land mammals and birds have r.e.m. (rappid eye movement) sleep this is when they/we dream there are lots of different theories on what its for, it seems to help our memories and the more r.e.m sleep we get the less likely we are to suffer from depression.hope that explains it a bit. :-)

Dogs do dream. They dream about running, playing with other dogs, chewing on bones, burying bones, generally running free and doing doggie things.

Sometimes they have nightmares. Usually about cats getting the better of them. Or being trapped in a kennel.

yes i think they do. But i wonder what about? is it about the day they have had. Like free running on the beach or meeting their friends in the park. Or on my dogs mind is chasing other dogs?

My staff "charlie" does it all the time.In the morning i say to him "who`s jeffrey",you should see the embarassment on his little face :)

One of my dogs growls and snarls in his sleep sometimes, but most of the time they both just twitch their feet and make little squeaky barky type noises.

It's very cute, whatever they are dreaming about.
