How much are holiday vaccinations for Egypt and Kenya?

I am off to Kenya and Egypt for a few weeks later in the year. I am aware that I will requirea number of vaccinations. I was wondering if anyone has any idea how much doctors charge for these vaccinations?

I don't think you have to have any vaccinations unless you're coming from a yellow fever area, but you'll probably need malaria tablets, which may cost quite a bit if you need Malarone.

You might need Hepatitis A. I think charging on vaccinations varies with G.P.'s practices. Ours doesn't charge.

sorry, I was thinking tourist areas but if you're going off into the wilds you may need some.

My last vaccinations for going to the Dominican Republic (think it was Hepititus A) were �9 x

We went to Kenya two years ago and my doctor advised Hep.A vaccinations plus Malarone or Lirium but said Malarone was definately best option as it's a very high risk area.It cost �60 in May 2004 but I think you can get it a bit cheaper on the net.Try Sterling Health site as it's about the most helpful along with the World Health Organisation site

I am off to Kenya in 2 weeks and had to have tetnus and diptheria redone and a yellow fever injection. I had these done by my local surgery who is luckily an approved yellow fever centre, but not all surgeries are as you have to have a licence. You need to be vacinated against polio, tetnus, dip, yellow fever and hepatitus A. My boyfriends children's surgery is not licenced for yellow fever injections so we have to go to a clinic to get it done - cost �42 each!!. The malaria tablets recommended for Kenya have to be bought on private prescription. Malarone seem to be the best (the others have a side effect of possible climical depression and the other one a sensitivity to sunshine - not good for Kenya) Tesco's do Malarone for �2.30 each, other local chemists charge upto �3.50 per tab, so worth shopping around. You need to take one a day for 2 days b4 you go, then during, then 1 week after.

Sorry bigelaine, should have said that our local surgery charged us �35 each for the injections, even tho I had 3 but my boyfriend didn't have to renew, just get the Yell fever one done.

Hi, I have just returned from Egypt and had boosters and one for hepatitus but the time before I didnt bother (as I didnt have time due to the late booking of my holiday).. my doctors dont charge for these and I think it would be well worth going along and asking your doctor for their advice, most people do have jabs for Egypt and its not really worth taking the risk, even if they charge for doing it as I dont think it would be much, if anything.
