For the 2nd time now, my goldfish has jumped from his bowl. The last one i had was found lying on the floor one morning and my second one had jumped into the washing up bowl on friday, as his bowl is next to it, in the kitchen.I have no idea how long he was in there for, there was little bit of water in it, but he died on Saturday. Does anyone know why this is happening. I don't overfill the bowl either because i was extra cautious after the first time it happened. I don't want this to happen again.

Awww poor fishy:(

Could always try putting some sort of cover over next time? Like a piece of netting or something???

I've got 5 goldfish, luckily none of mine have tried this, good job really as they'd be eaten by the dog before I could blink!

i agree. my goldfish tank comes with removable cover-wilkinsons!!!

im starting to get paranoid that they don't like me. definately gonna put some mesh on though!
Bowls aren't very good for keeping goldfish.

They will be jumping as they are struggling to breathe or to escape polluted water (don't use replacement water straight from the tap - let it stand for a day or twobefore you use it).

Best bet is to get a decent aquarium with an air pump or dig a pond.

If you can't do either of those at least lower the water level so that its got maximum surface area for oxygenation.

See the link (there are countless others) if you're not convinced:-

Thanks file cutter. Just wanted to know why really. I will take your advice.
I had a goldfish that did this once, I looked it up somewhere, can't remember where now, but it said that fish do this sometimes as they feel that they need to go to a bigger pond, so to speak. If your goldfish is in a small or crowded environment, this may be the reason.
