Hi does any one know of a good site on how to create a wormery?

Hey

I dont know any websites but this is what id do...

Fill an old aquarium with alternate layers of garden soil, leaf mold (decaying leaves), and sand. Sprinkle each layer with a little water. On top of the last layer place small pieces of leafy vegetable and a handful of cornmeal. Dig up several earthworms from the backyard or off the sidewalk after an especially heavy rainfall. Transfer them to their new home. Cover the sides of the aquarium with dark paper for a week or two to encourage the worms to tunnel near the glass. As the earthworms consume the decayed vegetation they will keep turning the soil.

would your name suggest you intend to teach these worms to swim?

i made one for my son using a two litre and a 1&1/2 litre plastic coke bottles. cut the tops off place one inside the other.fill the gap between them with layers of soil, fine sand,leaf mold. pop in a few worms, bake on a low heat ...oh sorry had a gordon ramsey moment. put a few small leaves on top, use different types.watch the worms pull the leaves into their holes. keep it moist but don't over water.

I intend to recycle my kitchen scraps, use the compost in my garden.

Thanks farmbird, you are quite right the wormery is up and running but thanks anyway.Since the last postings i have extended it to include outdoor heated pool and the worms are swimming well, they just love lounging around and drinking pimms popping into the pool when it gets to hot.
