Norocarp - Has anyone had problems

I have a 16 year old border collie who is now getting stiff and limps at times. I have been given Norocarp for her but am concerned about the side effects. No blood test was done and she has had collitus and other gastro problems - Any help...

If it is relieving her symptoms then I would say stick with it. At 16 it cannot be a long term treatment, and you should allow her to enjoy the rest of her time with as little discomfort at possible.

We have a 15 year old medium size x bred bitch who has arthritis at the base of her spine, and problems with stiffness in her hind legs.

There are not any other known health problems and our Vet prescribed Metacam, and suggested in addition we give her a tablet of 500mg glucosamine and 400mg chondrotin daily (she is 20kgs), which we now do. You may want to discuss this with your vet, Metacam may not be suitable for your dog given the pre-existing conditions they have, but the glucosamine/chrondrotin tablet may be suitable.

Our dog seems to be less stiff than she was, and although a little wobbly sometimes when she first gets up, is able to run and seems to enjoy life.

There are lots of joint supplements on the market. Talk to your vet and she or he should be able to recommend a good one. I like glyco-flex3 and cartrophen personally. Perna Cannis is a really good type of joint medication so any one that you can find that has this should help. Many people don't notice a difference when they put their pets on these supplements but they notice when they take them off. I don't know what Norocarp is... is it like an NSAID? Metacam is a good product and so is Deramax, but they do produce side effects. If they are taken with a full meal then they should not be harmful, but you never know how your pet will react.
