I've just read bopeeps advice and website info, and I see that they mention a CD of loud noises. Just to let you know that I made some recordings of fireworks and play it very quietly and gradually increase the volume for a while before the dreaded firework season. It certainly helps my dog. I can't pretend it has cured him, but he is not so worried by it when the real thing happens.By the way, I wrote to my MP about the really loud ones and it seems there is a lot of new legislation, so let's hope it won't be so bad.

It is an utter disgrace I agree ... A lot of the chain supermarkets are to blame sellign buy one get free upto a month before hand ....yes ASDA, Morrisons etc........

My mom has 3 dogs and she get this plug in thing fr home and its meant to emit some sort of hormone that chills the dogs and calms them down. It's meant to replicate hormones whilst on the womb. She has used them for some years and it does help them a little....

Its about time the government stepped in and stopped fireworks being purchased unless it is for a genuine show and not until on or around Nov 5th ....not months before and after ........

As a owner of 2 cats my concerns are the same

Here's hoping something happens soon ......

There has been much discussion on this subject here on AB, it's been recommend that you get a noise CD or Tape and play it softly at first and give your dog HIGH value treats when playing the noise, then, turn it up louder as you progress at the DOGS level not yours, if they act relaxed then you can proceed, if they get fearful or nervous, stop at the level they felt relaxed and stay there till you can progress, giving them those high value treats, gradually, do not try to do this all in a day.. This will desensitize and counter condition them..I think someone on here mentioned to get your dog use to it NOW not when all the hoopla is upon you.

There is usually a plethora of advice sought around July 4th here and new year and your Nov. 5 event, the people with advice try to tell everyone to get the dog conditioned now, while you can. The exploding type of fireworks, and anything that leaves the ground are banned in my city, but ppl get them illegally any way, so it is coming up in a few weeks.

One bit of advice I heard when using the CD that I would just like to pass on is to put the speakers on your window sill. Your dog's hearing is so sensitive that they can tell the difference between sound coming from outside, and sound coming from your stereo. You need to make the noises on the CD sound more like they are outside.

Don't ever ever ever make a fuss of your dog when they are being nervous. Try and act like it's nothing to worry about, and in fact, you hadn't even noticed there was any noise. Otherwise you are rewarding your dog for being a baby.

Good luck everyone who has nervous dogs.
