my heater for my tropical fish broken how long will my fish last.

Depends on the species, some are hardier than others you need to get a new one as soon as possible.
Can you put some sort of heater near your tank? to try to keep it warm?
What fish have you got in there?
I am not an expert by any means and might be giving you rubbish advice here but if they are going to die any way....

I would fill up with a bit of warm water regulary (every 3 hours or so) until you can get to an open shop.
You should have a thermometer in or stuck on your tank, why not put a sealed bottle of hot water in and experiment how often you need to replace it using your thermometer.
And keep an eye out for whitespot in the next week or so due to the stress of colder water

all fish survived best advice was to keep light on and wrap tin foil around the tank. thanks for all response.
