Can anyone tell me of any cheap stuff i can put on my soil to stop cats pooing on it each time i dig it up? I tried some 'Cats off' from wilkinsons which was about 3.99 but after a couple of days the poo was back! Plus i can't afford to buy this on a weekly basis. Is there any household stuff i can use at all, obviously i don't want to harm the cats just get them to leave my garden alone!

thanks in anticipation.

Supposedly, torn up orange peel works, they don't like the smell. Buy the really cheap oranges, sqeeze the juice for your own use & try the peel on the soil.
As you say gets a bit much to keep buying stuff, we had same problem. In the end bought a sonic cat detterent, 20.00, but works a treat - no more cats mess!!!!
as you don't wish to harm the cats,a landmine is out of the question then
My neighbour bought a sonic cat deterrent - all it did was drive us mad, we could hear it all the time but all the cats in the neighbourhood used to just slink past it with a smirk on their faces! (OK I may have exaggerated there, but seemed a waste of money anyway)

As a cat owner, I'm afraid there's not much you can do. You could try throwing water at them (not too much tho, there's no need to be cruel) they might then get the message and find somewhere else, but of course that relies on you catching them 'in the act'.

Also, there're some plants which cats don't like. Have a look here...

Happy gardening!
cats need to put their bottom down to poo, so if you can put some small sticks/twigs into any bare soil, this should stop them. I have a gravelled front garden with ornamental grasses and the cats started to come and use that mainly for spraying on, I found by shaking neat white vinegar all over the gravel it stopped them coming, I repeated it several times as it rained, but now I don't have any trouble, don't know if it would work on soil, but might be worth a try as it is cheap.
Moth Balls is the answer you are looking for, they are still available in hardware stores although I got mine from an eBay seller, I keep them in a sealed jam jar and spread a few around the garden in likely places when needed. It works for me.
