wabbit worries

i'm looking after the neighbours rabbit for a couple of weeks but it seems to be a bit depressed. It is in a large cage at the top of their garden, excluded from everything and sits in the same corner all day , hardly moving. It gets fed by someone else but this just consists of rabbit pellets. I've been giving it basil, dandelion, dock leaves and carrots to supplement its diet but dont know if its use to these fresh foods and dont want to upset its stomach - should i take it out for a break to make it a bit more social?

I'd been tempted to give it some freedom if you can do so in a safe environment, but the rabbit may be so unsed to freedom that it may be too scared to take advantage of it.
I'd be tempted to tell your neighbours when they return that the poor thing was so depressed that you let it out for regular runs and and that you've also supplemented its diet. It may have a slight upset stomach initially, so give them in small doses a first. If they don't the message about about letting it have a runabout and you've got time, why not shame them and offer to let it do so in your garden once a week?

I totally agree with wendy. rabbits shouldnt be kept risoner like that.
I ahve rabbits and mine all ahve hutches that sit on top of 5ft long and 4 ft wide runs, per two rabbits. they also get let out to runa bout the garden daily.
It is lovely to see them hopping and skipping about, so happy to be out.
As wendys said give it those fresh foods in small doses, you seem to know what to feed, but just remember NO LETTUCE Or broccoli!

Thanks Wendy,
I've since learnt last time they went on holiday its mate died in the hutch, also i think its afraid of the cat and dogs rampaging about. Personaly i think its a case of some families taking on too many pets that they dont have the time to care for. I'll be sure to take it for a play this evening.

ohh poor bunnie! First off, this poor bunny needs to have much more to its diet then just rabbit pellets! it needs hay! hay is the staple (main) food for bunnies. Please get it some hay. Timothy hay is good. Also, it should have a varriaty of greens. Dandelion leaves are a favorite. Does the bunny have some toys to play with and chew on? The poor bunny needs some lovin! Yes, i would try and socialize it some, The poor thing is dpressed. Its got a poor diet, no toys and no one to play with.
