Marine or Tropical?

What is the difference in these and which is better? have either of these got small sharks that you can have?

Hello, me again! :-)

Personally I'd love to have a marine set up, the fish that you can get for them are amazing, awesome colours. However the price to set up, run, maintain and buy fish for is wayyyy out of my price range.

You can get sharks, i've got one myself in my tropical tank, however it's hardly Jaws like (heh) there's many varieties of sharks, and some that don't even look like them, infact mine looks nothing like you'd think a shark should look like!

Did you get chance to look at the forum I mentioned yesterday? There's also a fish index on there which tells you every variety of tropical fish going (the forum (i think) also has a marine section), it tells you which fish will be good tank mates for other fish etc, becuse you'd be devestated if one became fish food for another!

Thanks again for your help. Yeah I checked it out quickly but didnt have a good look. Do you know of any fish that actually resemble sharks?

well without getting too technical, the size of the shark you get will depend on your tank size and what other inhabitants you put in with it, but if you like i'll rustle up some pics of more shark-like looking sharks for you.

If you really are thinking of more Jaws like critters, you're in for a big disapointment, most are small, extremely shy and complete wusses!

i'm not too fussed about how they are, i just want to have one. Sharks are cool! Plus there aint many people who can say they have their own pet shark!

Ok...i have 35 years experience of keeping freshwater fish and 20 years keeping reef aquaria.

What ever you chose to keep, you will need to do as much research as possible....talk to the people, read the books and work out the cost and time you will take for maintenance etc.

I have just got rid of my 120 gallon reef aquarium as the running costs became too high (lights, heaters, salt, water etc). I now have a gorgeous 50 gallon planted aquarium which i'd love to show you the pics if i knew how.

As for sharks....you can buy true saltwater sharks but you buy them as an unhatched egg. The sharks are then perfect minatures of the adults and require a tank around 10' x 4' x 4'. I'd forget that idea for now !!!

The sharks for a saltwater aquarium are true sharks.

The ones for freshwater trops are not true sharks
