A book about wolves?

I'm trying to find the name of a book which I read a few years back. The book is about a pack of wolves and there is a war between hundreds of wolves at near the end.

They live in a cave and there is a castle at the top of the hill near it. One bit I remember well is theres some meat hanging from a tree and the wolves are really hungry and one of the jump up to grab it but there is a pit underneath and it fall in and dies(real cheerful I know).

So if anyone knows what book i'm talking about please tell me.

It might be The Sight you're thinking of. I read that book a few years ago, but I can't remember the author, nor the exact storyline (except that it's about wolves and maybe that they have a war...) There's a close up picture of a wolf's face on the cover if that's any help...
