I have a tropical fish tank and would like to get a cool fish to go in it. I really dont want any standard fish that everyone has.
Can anyone suggest anything?

There a little harder to keep than normal boring tropical fish because they can be aggressive to there own kind but African Malawi Cichlids come in very striking colours and have more character than bog standard fish.
They'll form there own territory and fight of any fish moving in. They dig in the sand you put at the bottom of the tank and also if your lucky pair off and have babies.
You will need no more equipment to set them up than tropical and are a little more hardy to changing water conditions and disease.
Good luck

A mono. Dont have any of these myself but they look pretty nice. Not sure if they will suit the size of tank you have,or if they will get along with your other fish either.
Here is a link with a picture of them.

bumble bee gobies are really cool, or a koolie loach - both are bottom feeders. Depends on the size of your tank and what fish you already have. Blue Rams are quite swish. We have a pengasus in our tank - providing you have a big enough tank they are fab - but do grow very big. dwarf gouramis add some colour, or pink kissing gourami but depending on your other fish I'd avoid other types of gourami as I have found some to be a bit nasty towards other fish (mainly Golden). Or a really fab fish is the upside down catfish - it looks like it's upside down but it actually the right way up. Hope this is of some help, all the ones I've mentioned are very happy as community fish.
