As a vet nurse of 26 years I can say that you cannot generalise about any breed, good or bad. You cannot say all Golden retrievers are soft, just as you cannot say all Pit Bulls are aggressive. It has to be said that the supposed 'Pit Bulls' in this country are mainly poorly bred, oversized Staffy types labelled by mislead people as 'Pit Bulls'who may well be safe with children, depending on their socialization and upbringing.Any type of cross breed in the Uk with Staffy or Pit Bull type gets a bad name becuase of true Pits which were bred purely for fighting, they have very high prey drives and high levels of aggression. How sick and how sad. So those in this country who think they have a pit bull and protest that they are safe with kids, they are only safe with kids becuase they are not Pit Bulls!!I support the outlawing of the true pit bull dog as these dogs were only bred for fighting, never to be companion or pet dogs, and you will only find the true original types of these dogs in America. What does that say about that country I wonder? However, back to the issue of the alleged 'pit bulls' in the uk,these poor cross breeds and mongrels have been stuck with a horrible label of aggressive dogs just because of their looks.A supposed pit bull from uk would bear very little comparison to an american pit bull, and the english dogs' temperament is fairly stable in right hands. Figures reporting dog bites are very unreliable as most police officers can't even recognise breeds and they record the figures.Proportionally labs and gsds inflict the most bites as they are numerically the most (over) popular dogs, and look at the state of some of those if you are talking about aggression!!So yes it is most definitely wrong to breed/use/like the image of true fighting dogs, however there are many myths surrounding fighting dogs and we mustnt lable innocent mongrels and cross breeds 'Pit Bulls' , even though some owners would want to for some obscure reason????!!
