With respect.......don't you think you should've done a little bit of research before you got the birds ?

What kind are they as all birds have different needs
Hi, you really need to be more specific. What exactly do you need to know..... and have to tottally agree with Hammerman....always research an animal BEFORE buying it...

well firstly
you have to make sure that one doesnt find out about the other,
treat them good,
make sure they dont meet one another or they might start a fight,
but in the end you will have to decide which one is best for you,
Depends a little on breed type lol, either throw them a few lbs of meat or a tray of millet, a little more info would be useful.

By the way I just bought a pet animal, what do I feed it on?
a meal,maybe the cinema,,,,then a coffee,,
Oh come on you lot play nicely ;-)

This might help http://petcaretips.net/bird-as-pet.html If you know what breed you have you could put that into google and find out a little more about what types of food they prefer, what type of accomodation they like etc. Ask at the pet shop, you can also get good books at the library. Although the above are right if you post a little more detail I'm sure someone will be able to give you some great tips.

Were the birds a gift?

Just make sure you do learn a little about their needs and they will thrive and give you great pleasure.

Good luck

I got them at the animal shelter, nobody wanted them and it was there day to be put to down.
So I felt bad for them and adopted them, with out knowing much about them.

They are parakeets, I think a boy and a girl.
And that is all I really know about these birds.
Blimey.....most animal shelters 1) do not put down healthy animals and 2) would not give out any animals without first vetting you.....you don't even know what these birds are.

A lot of parakeets are not sexable externally. They will require a large cage....and i mean large or preferably a small outdoor aviery.

A basic parakeet seed mix should be fed with additional fruit and veg given. Iodine blocks and cuttlefish should be given as should clean fresh water on a daily basis.

You will also need to know that many parakeets are very noisy....especially first thing in the morning.

Try to ID them by googling parakeets in the images section.

Good luck

make sure you give them bird grit in with there normal seed (i use another food bowl for this) for there digestion fresh water evey day and seed and offer veg and fruit they love water cress, remove after 2-3 hours before it decays ,make sure if there in sunlight they have shade they can go to, away from drafts and heaters etc. make sure you clean cage regulary and perches, if the cage allows get a bird bath to fit on door or you can put a old disused bowl with about 3/4 inch of water on the cage floor, this stops any lice and they love it, they also love toys, ie; ladders swings, bells, mirrors, ropes etc, hope you enjoy your new pets, they can be great fun, you can always get more info on the net about them.
Hi all,

I cannot for the love of life fathom out why people keep animals in cages. I understand that we must have zoos to protect dying species, but what pleasure do we as normal human beings get from keeping a bird in a cage? It doesn't make sense to me.

All animals in cages, fish in small tanks etc, etc, should be banned.

Regards

But if I were to let this birds outside, they would get eatin.. Probably by one of my cats..
