still peeing in house

Help.I have two Great Danes who will still pee in the house. The one is 11months old, the other just 1 years old this week. Depite having the door open into the garden for most of the day the bitch keeps peeing by the door as soon as it is shut.When we do shut the door she will idicate that she want's out but 9 times out of 10 all she does is go and mess around. Both are let out before we go to bed, and I tend to stand out side with them till they have been to the loo.As soon as we put them to bed, the bitch stoops and pees.The dog (1 year old) pees sometime during the night. I don't let them drink before they go to bed. Any suggestions? at my wits end, they are so unpredictable.Have tried the usual wee wee command when they are out side.Have tried specialised disinfectant etc At the moment we have no carpet down as we are renovating the house , but hopefully soon we will have and need to stop this problem asap.

Hi, while I appreciate the previous answer, as the owner of a Dane....That would have to be one hell of a crate! Ane the chances are they would still wee in it!!! Have you tried Clicker training.....this would involve watching the dog when you thought it was about to wee....then click....a firm no and take them outside encourage them to wee....praise and repeat [knowing a Dane you will need to do this at least 4 million times!!!!]. The theory behind this is that the Clicker attracts their attention more effectively than your voice, which they are too used to. The same effect can be achieved with training discs, a bunch of keys or a small bottle filled with stones. I used training discs to train my Dane to walk to heel, by dropping them on the ground in front of him, getting his attention, correcting him and walking on....reapeat 4 million times etc. There are sites about this type of training, I'll try and find you some.

Will try the clicker training.As you know Great Danes don't have the greatest attention span.These two are my 9th and 10th Great Danes and I have never had this sort of problem before.Millie the youngest rules the roost, and Loki just follows her lead.
I will persevere, as the crates would just take up to much room, and I have known Millie to pee in her bed so the theory of not soiling there sleeping space totally goes out the window there.

sorry you dont have enough room for a crate :)
only suggested it coz i have one that is supposed to be great dane size -that i bought for our setter - wanted a big one for him.
he has never weed in it tho

Drinking before they go to bed at this age should not make any difference whatsoever.

What happens if the door is closed for most of the day? She seems to have got it into her head to pee when the door is closed and when they are put to bed (eg when she is not meant to). Try reversing this by closing the door for most of the day, that way she might get the hang of peeing when the door is opened. When she does it when going to bed what do you do? Do you clean it or leave it? Also the key might be that you are renovating the house - is the floor concrete? Do they ever wee when outside? Also are they both entire? It could have something to do with their hormones and whether the bitch is coming into season and marking for the male.

Clicker training is usually used when they do a positive action - to praise them instantly - so you would click when they were in the act of weeing outside. It is not supposed to be a distraction, the idea is to use the click instead of your voice.

I have a male Anatolian (same size as a Dane) so I know crate training is virtually impossible. I know my dog went through a stage where he refused to do anything except on his own territory, but I would have thought your male was a bit old for that (I used to take him out for an hour and he did it when he got back in the car!!!!).

I would try shutting the door and limiting their access to the garden though, until you have got more control, maybe they see the garden as more their bed than the house. Just a thought!

I think Millie might be due to come into season very soon.
Will try not having the door open all day and see what happens.
