i think you might be best calling a vet?

ye owners sorry lol
Its the vet then, a bandage won't be sufficent, possible infection etc.

Ps, the reason the owners can't bandage the cat is, the cat naturally feels threatern as its already been hurt
My friends cat got it's tail hurt in a fight and the cat ended up losing its tail (sorry, probably worst case scenario). Ring the emergency vet and see what they say....

i would do the same as tonyted, sneakily squirt the ****** with antiseptic, save on the vet bill. It will sort itself out.
I wouldn't go to the vet just yet, and bandages aren't great on animals anyway, they can encourage infection. If they can pin it down long enough, clean the wound with salt water and then spray anticeptic if they have any. Clean it every day with salt water and just keep an eye on it, at the first sign of infection (any swelling or pus) then get it straight to the vet for an antibiotic injections. They're pretty resiliant creatures, tell your friends not to panic, but keep it clean and keep an eye on it.

having said that, If the cut is so deep that the tail is hanging off - get it to a vet!!
Take the cat to the vet. If you had a deep cut, would'nt you take yourself along to a hospital for a antibiotic ????
One of my cats had a deep puncture wound on her back, given by another cat we think. I took her straight to the vet and he gave her antibiotics and some pain killers, he did not put any bandage on it.
I really would echo the advice given here and get the cat taken to the vets, as it may get an infection from the wound, better to be safe than sorry!!
