A banana is a real fruit. Commercially grown bananas are sterile therefore do not have any true seeds. The little black bits you see down the centre are what should be seeds.
Just saw the bit about the coconut - this is not a nut but actually a very big seed.
Strawberry is another fruit with false seeds - those little yellow pips on the outside of the berry.
It's just that some plants have evolved to not bother with seeds any more. The banana sends up offshoots from the roots called 'suckers', while the strawberry sends out 'runners', shoots that can take root when they touch the ground.
In both cases, it's probably evolved as a more sure method of propogation than just scattering seeds any-old-how.
A Banana is actually a classed as a Herb.
Or should I say a Banana plant is refered to as a Herb, not a Tree.
A banana is a vegetable art4sure.
A banana is a fruit and not a vegetabe. To be technically correct it is a false berry.

Also it is a herbaceous plant and not a herb.
Just to add even more confusion
