Do herons hibernate if so when and how long for?

No smiffy, herons don't hibernate.

A few other creatures do though, like hedgehogs and snakes for example.

Most of our Grey Herons choose to stay in the UK for the winter as they are quite capable of flying 20+ miles for the best food sites, but there are some that prefer to spend the colder days (and who can blame them!) in France, Spain and Portugal.

It's a two-way thing, because I've just found a website that states some Herons from Norway and Sweden come over here to spend their winter with us.

thanks for that, just thinking about my fish in the pond and whether they would be safe in winter, but I guess not
Best to put some netting over the pond if you can - just in case.
Your fish will be safe, they will probably migrate south for the winter.
