I have a cat who is almost 12 and she keeps wandering off.
She was dressed years ago and only did this the last 12 months, twice now she has gone this time for about 6 month.
I think someone is feeding her so i will have to find out who and get it stopped.
Does anyone know why she has not started to take off for months? Is i because someone is feeding her or could it be strokes which disorientent her.?
Everytime she comes home i let her out and she ends up gone after a few weeks.

if shes been missing for 6 months, i think shes probably dead, rather than being fed by someone else. what do you mean she was dressed years ago?

she isn't dead i have her here at home, found today after nearly 8 months away. She was nuteured is what dressed means.
I am asking why suddenly after 11 years has she started to wander off for months at a time then suddenly i find her?
I'm not expert just trying to help.
I would think some one must be feeding her, unless she has survived the past 8 months scavaging which from a 12 year old cat used to the good things in life (central heating, comfy beds, fresh food and water 24/7) is pretty unlikely. Has there been a change in curcumstances that might have made her not want to be there, (another cat or dog) maby.
If it was me i'd try 3 things
1 - Follow her to see where she goes (bit silly but who cares)
2 - dont let her out
3 - bribe her to stay, if she's going off somewhere cos someone gives her more attention and food beat them at their own game.
Hope this helps
If she wears a collar, could you put a tag on it, saying "please dont feed me"?
Buy a dog, far more loyal!!!!!!!!!

yes i got a couple of kittens and i have now put a collar on her which i am not happy at doing but if who ever is feeding her reads it then maybe they will stop. I have an idea who is feeding her but i will have to see.
I have also put a barrel on her barrel saying i have owners please do not feed me and hopefully i can get them to stop.
Blimey arn't cats complicated - I now have a vision of you trying to follow your cat around the neighbourhood - my 11 year old cat can still clear a 12 foot fence, good luck following her over one of those. Try to set up a video camera of yourself doing this and put it on You Tube please.

Seriously though very glad she's OK, hope the 'helpful people' stop feeding her and taking her in.

:o)
Good to see that bednobs is living up to their name again....and still being a nob!

It's in a cat's nature to be fickle, you never really own a cat, they just stay until they don't want to anymore sometimes and it seems you're kittens have given her the hump and she prefers it elsewhere. distressing for you I know but she can clearly take care of hrself or someone is mistaking her for a stray and feeding ehr. At least you know when she takes her little wansderings off she's ok which is the main thing.
Cats eh? Sad, but you only ever 'rent' them. Sometime ago, my cat went for nearly a week without eating anything. So, worried out of my mind, I took her to the vet. Paid out a considerable amount for tests, only to find that she was in perfect health. Turned out someone else was feeding her - even though she's worn a collar all of her life, and was clearly not a stray. But she does a winning begging act, so I can't blame them. Maybe you could try keeping her in - get her used to sharing her home with kittens. Not an easy situation to find yourself in. Good luck : )
i have two fluffy friends, and they both go off for only a few days, but come back starving and very loving. they have been chipped, neutered and vaccinated, and are insured, so i can relax. Put on her collar, that she has an illness that needs special medication, and that will stop her other mummy from taking her in. good luck.
