A week ago my gsd was given the all clear by my vet i was told he was in good health, he was given this drug for imflamtion he had hd ,this morning christmas eve i lost him to internal bleeding he went down hill in less than 3 hours my vet never mentioned any side effects from this drug when it was prescribed but when i searched net i found this to be common he was six years old not old for a gsd and to be fair two vets fought to
save his life for over two hours but he never made it

So very sorry to hear your news Gypsy. I know how you feel, I had a GSD with severe HD (the vet said she should not even be walking!). I lost her at 6 years old - she developed bone cancer in one of her hind legs. I think it was probably caused (or set off) by the HD. I was absolutely devastated, she was the first dog I had lost, I had to make the decision of no treatment as the only treatment was amputation of the leg and the other hip would never have carried her weight.

There is nothing I can say to make you feel better.

You did the best you possibly could. At least you shared his life for the few years he had and made him as happy as he could possibly be.

I have happy memories of my girl, running flat out on the beach, jumping and chasing with my other two girls, I know that the five years I had her she never felt lonely, frightened or hungry.

In time you will remember the good times, the happy days with him. Take the time to greave, it will get better, but for now just take each day at a time.

Oh Gypsy, my heart goes out to you, it truly does, I am so sorry to hear of your loss at such a time, I lost my 13 y/o lab last wednesday, but he had a good innings, but the pain is sooo bad, but your friend was just 6 - I cant believe so young to have this happen is such a tragedy for you. Nothing can ease the pain you are feeling, so just go with it, once again I am so sorry.

I think alot of people missed your 'question' because of the time of year, so I thought I would put a new answer in to bring it back up to the front.

Time doesn't heal - but it does get less painful.

You did everything you possibly could at the time.
