fat bunny?
5 Answers
Ive just took our mini lop house rabbit to the vets for his 6 mth injections and check hes never seen this vet before and she said he was rather large 3.6 kgs and that he should be 2 kgs lighter and to put him on a diet of half of what i normally give him. he doesnt look fat hes not bulging anywhere and every time im feeding him his half food he literally pounces on me for it! Ive spoken to various people about it and they dont think hes a true mini lop and that he seems normal to them. I dunno what to do as he looks like hes desperate for his food all the time. ps he has fresh hay every day and the occasional carrot and greens no sweet or biccies as some ppl i know give to theres would really appreciate some help as i dont want to starve him!

Unless an animal is obviously obese or has a medical condition i hate to starve them as they have no other way of getting their food but through us. You could take him to another vet to get a second opinion stressing that you do not believe he is pure mini lop and therefore may be bigger causing the weight discrepancy . The weights are after all just guide lines and not chiseled in stone. I have never met anyone, man nor beast getting fat off of too many veggies. taking off 2kgs would be more than halving his weight which sounds ridiculous to me and harmful. Get a 2nd opinion if you are worried.
