Gonna ring ACAS on Monday but can anybody else help in the meantime.
Worked for a small company from Nov 06-Jan 07 consisting of three partners. On Tuesday 2nd January, 2007 I verbally gave them notice that I to leave on Friday 5th January,2007. I would of given the notice on Monday but of course that was a bank holiday.
Conversations were going on all week as they were trying to persuade me to stay. When I left on the Friday they asked me at about 6 oclock to put something in writing for there records. I did this from home later on that night and also asked for a reference that I could use in the future.
I have today received a letter from the female (partnership consisting of two males and one female) stating they would be making no further payments to me as I did not give them sufficient notice (1 week). Worse still....the reference consists only of two sentences, period worked and position held.
Can anyone advise a)wage b)reference
Its only one weeks wages that I'm owed ,that being for the first week in January but its the principle. I worked really really hard for the company. I was always told by the two males in the partnership that they were really pleased with the work I'd done and were gutted that I was leaving and they all tried really hard to persuade me to stay.Oh and by the way perhaps I should mention that one of the males (whos married) is having an affair with this female. So it's not as tho I can ask them for a reference cos not gonna go against her.

Threaten any emplyer with taking them to a tribunal and they usually pay up, why? Because tribunals side with employees and employers have to pay solicitors to defend them. Personally though I would write to them tell them you are disappointed, that you showed them loyalty and this is demonstrated by the fact that you know the male partner is having an affair (do not mention the female partner) yet you kept it quiet. Then tell them you are considering all options.
