What causes a dog to continue shaking his head ,like he is trembling

If you mean the dog' s head is trembling in small, rapid movements, look at his eyes. If there are small, rapid but coordinated movements of the eye from side to side and if the dog is older then I would suspect peripheral vestibular disease. We've had two dog's so afflicted over the years. Vet's don't know what causes it, there are no treatments but fortunately the symptoms go away... in our case about two weeks or so. It sometimes produces nausea, since it's rather like you experiencing sea sickness or other motion related sickness. In any case, if it was rapid onset or if there are other noticeable symptoms, I'd certainly have a Vet look at the dog... Best of luck...

I think I know what you mean. Is the dog laying down? It is more of a tremble than a full blown head shake. I think what you are seeing could be his heartbeat (or pulse). I have seen it a couple of times in my old dog. Don't know why it happens though!

This is a fairly common in Bulldogs, not the the breed of your dog but I'm sure the symptons could prevail in any breed. It is caused due to low blood/sugar levels which occur from time to time and have no detrimental or lasting effects on the dog. The best remedy I found was a teaspoon of honey. If your dog is still showing the signs then try another one about an hour later. I found that the trembling can be on/off for a couple of days and then stop for months on end.

Pasted from the Bulldog Rescue site: Rather like a fit, but effecting just the head, which will involuntary shake from side to side (or up and down), sometimes violently enough to cause their lips to flap about. The dog is conscious and aware of what is happening. We have always found them to be linked to stress which may cause the blood sugar level to drop enough to trigger the head shake. Giving some glucose or runny honey to bring the blood sugar level back up should help although distraction often stops the shaking. If you are unable to link the attack to a specific stressful incident or a recent period of over excitement then your bulldog may be in pain and it is advisable that you get your vet to check him over. Note, many vets are unfamiliar with this breed specific condition and sometimes mis diagnose epilepsy.

there could be something in his ears a bit of dust or grass seeds but check him out and if he carries on take him to the vets
