what the hell is going on with my hamsters!!!
3 Answers
A couple of weeks ago, at Petco, I bought 2 hamsters.1 long hair teddy bear, 1 short hair teddy bear, both males.
One of them has something hanging, to me they look like tarantarans. The other one is a little bigger and for sure has like 6 nipples (im not sure how many) and today I noticed that he is so fat! He has 2 bulges on each side(the stomach). I think that there is babies in there. This one does not have what I call tarantarans. The lady at Petco told me that eventually they would drop. But he's bigger than the other one how can he be younger? Oh well, anyways, I don't know which one of my boys had babies !!! but one of them or both ate them. that was like 2 1/2 weeks ago. The one that's huge is she pregnant? Can you tell what are their sex? I need to know what the hell is going on with my hamsters!

What's a "tarantaran"?
Are you saying one did have babies and they've eaten them? And now one (the same one?) is pregnant again?
Anyways.....link here on how to sex hamsters, hope it helps.

To be on the safe side, I'd also be tempted to take them to the vet, please don't rely on information given to you by a woman at Petco- they usually have the brain capacity of a lightbulb in there (no offence to anyone who may work there!)

You cannot keep Syrian hamsters together. Once they reach only a few weeks old they need to be separated: not only because they will mate from a very early age, but because they fight to the death. If you are going to keep the two hamsters you must make sure they have a cage each. I cant believe the idiots at the pet shop didn't tell you this - but realistically you should have done your homework before taking the animals on.
