How much does it cost to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder?

We're looking at getting either a Beagle or an English Springer Spaniel.

Thanks!
If you are looking for breeders, try http://www.champdogs.co.uk click on Guided Search, then either hound group (beagles) or gundog group (english Springers). They have lists of breeders with their areas, and you can contact them direct.
Look on the kennel club site, they have registered breeders with puppies or magazines such as Our Dogs or Dog World.

Quality does vary with price, it depends what you want it for, showing or working dogs as opposed to pet dogs command a higher price
I've seen some in Cornwall from a breeder advertising them at about 150 for a male and 170 for a female springer.
Its a case of 'you get what you pay for' - if you want KC registered stock from a reputable breeder that has been health checked, with eyes and hips tested then you will pay more than from someone who has had a litter from their pet bitch by the dog up the road. There is also a big difference between working Springers and show types, although both can make excellent pets if you are prepared to put in the time and effort to train and exercise them, as they need a lot of mental and physical stimulation, being bred to work all day. Same with Beagles, they are a true hound breed, bred to run all day and follow their noses, which is what most do when let off the lead! They also
'give tongue' (howl, in everyday language!).
