Please help with road rules

i had an accident, i was leaving a minor road on the left, going left into a single carrige road. there was a guy comin from the single carrige road and turning right into the minor road i was coming out of and he cut the corner - and took the front right corner off my car! what are the uk road rules for turning left like this? at no point did i enter any bit of road he was in - or intending to be in.

From the right to ensure nothing is coming and to the left to make sure no one is overtaking and that your side of the road is clear. As the other car had cut the corner and would probably have hit you when you were stationary at the junction, I would say he was at fault.
I agree with sigma - the way you describe it the other driver was certainly at fault as he cut the corner and went on your bit of road. This is the same principle as driving on the wrong side of the road. People who do this, do it because they are too lazy to steer properly round corners and don't anticipate the consequences should another car be (legitimately) in their way. I do hope he stopped and gave you his insurance details!!
