The horizon will be further away as your eyeline is raised above the level of the sea surface. There is a website that will do the calculations for you here:

When I was much much younger, I was always told that on a perfectally clear day the horizon was about 25miles away.

However, I was also told that if I sailed my inflatable dinghy to go and find out what was on the horizon, I'd fall off the edge and into space.....!

I read years ago that there is an equasion for that answer which is the square root of whatever height you are at the waters edge times 1.14 miles.e.g. if you are 6 feet tall standing on a 3 foot hillock then you would be able to see about 3.42 miles away.( the square root of 6 plus 3 =3 times 1.14 miles.

Depends on eye level. But for me with eye level at approx 5 ft and standing at sea level it's approximately 3 miles

If your eyes are at sea level, and you are looking tangentially, then you will see no sea.

If you are elevated, looking down a bit, then you'll probably see as far as your eyes can... I believe it to be about 28 miles in a healthy adult with good eyesight.
