Is it possaible just to take a dog to the vets and have it put to sleep.
I came home today to find out family pet gone, my husband said that he bit him and took him to the vets and had him put down.
He won't say which vets and has rang our regular vets to say he has gone as I had him micro chipped.
I think my husband is lying to me.

I wouldnt even go so far as to call him my husband - as if mine did this he would be an ex. As someone else has already said, he sounds like he thinks dogs are disposable items to change when he gets fed up of them.
I agree with all answers, for me the husband would have to go no way could I live with a man who could make the decision without disscussing it with me or at least wait till I got home GypsyX
I'm not sure you should go filing for divorce just yet, although he has behaved like an utter pig. He says he wants an obedient dog, perhaps you should point out to him that the best dog you can ever have is one that is protective of your kids, and he killed that one. Sounds like he wants a dog that loves him best, maybe this is his warped way of showing you he's feeling neglected (not that I'm excusing his behaviour in the slightest).
I would have to agree with Lez here - I would get the husband put down! Seriously I think that under no circumstances should you get another dog - if your husband loses interest again what's to stop the next dog "disappearing"? It must be a very difficult situation for you if you have otherwise got a good relationship but I would question your husband about this and think long and hard!
If the dog is yours and he had the dog destroyed without your permission, you could make a complaint to the police and he could be arrested and charged with criminal damage,

On a personal note, why are you with him?
do you think your husband is trying to get back at you for somthing
You poor woman
1. you have lost your lovely dog
2. the way it was done.
3. Your poor children.

I can't believe how some people can be so cruel. Do you honestly believe that your husband has had the dog put down? Surley the vet that the dog is registered with would be the only one that could do this, any other vet should question some one just bringing a dog in for destroying because of a mere nip with no other history.

Your husband sounds to me like he is un-hinged. He has upset you whole family with this not to mention the poor dog. Would he take the kids to the doctors if they accidentally hurt him whilst playing? I don't think so.
If he gets another dog he will do the same thing he should be reported to the RSPCA or at least notify the next poor victims owners what he does with his pets when he gets bored with them. They wouldn't let him take their dog thats for sure.

I know how hard this must be and it has left you in a very uncomfortable situation but I know if it was me I would kick him out or pick up the kids and leave him!
I'd report him to the police if i was you.

Of course i'd give him a bit of a kicking beforehand for what he has done to see how he feels.

Well julie 76, I think you must be starting to get the gist of the level of feeling of people on this site! I think you have been very strong not to give us all a right mouthful, but as animal lovers we are all incensed that this may have happened. Please come back and let us know if you have found out any more.
You are right. Usually vets will have to do a waiting period if the dog had bitten someone before the dog is destroyed. This is to make sure the dog did not have rabies.
Did you try to find him since you had him micro chipped? If the chip locates him then you will know the truth.
There is no required waiting period between a dog biting someone and it being destroyed.

The sad fact is that this kind of situation is depressing common. People bring their pets in to get put down, quite frequently, for reasons like 'it's peeing on the carpets', 'we're going on holiday and it's too expensive to board it' or 'we don't want it'. Of course vets can refuse, and many do, but the animal is going to be destroyed no matter whether a vet does it or they do it themselves.

Someone arriving with a dog that has apparently bitten someone is usually not questioned as this is a 'valid' reason for euthanasia - but people can and do abuse this.

Julie, have you found out what happened to your dog yet?

Your husband is correct. If a dog misbehaves it must be put down immediately. No questions asked. Swift and instant justice is the only way. Sometimes doing the right thing hurts.
if my husband did this i would go mad and i would leave him what a nasty vile specimen he is get rid of him x
as for you ruhro id put you down too u nasty muppet !
I am very sorry to hear of your predicament - I have been there myself ........... when I was 12, my parents divorced and to spite my father, she took our beloved dog into the vets whom she told it has bit someone (pack of lies) and the dog was put to sleep. I have never forgiven her for this cruel act and never will, added with a few other unforgivable acts the whole family disowned her and I havent spoken to her in 20 years.
What a horrible husband you have. And who is he to just decide to have your dog put down? Ring round a few vets nearest to you, and maybe consider getting a new husband.
Reading other answers they are correct, you should inform the police. Because if this monster hasnt put your dog down, what else has he done with him? Do it now!
