How can i transport my goldfish?

Hey, i rescued two goldfish from a negligent owner and i have to transport them home from uni which will take 5 hours by car! Could someone let me know if this is possible or whether it would be too risky and i should attempt to re-home them or get a friend to look after them over the summer. Thanks!

No they'll be fine- they in a bowl? If so, just empty enough water out leaving it about quarter full and sit it in the footwell of the passenger seat, wedged in by something- and drive CAREFULLY......lol

It should be fine - after all many koi are imported into the UK without causing harm.

when we moved we use an ice box (no lid) seemed to do the trick

Try to get hold of a large plastic sweets jar with a screw-on lid. Three-quarters fill with well-aerated cold water and put your goldfish in. Every two hours or so remove the lid and let some fresh air in. If the water stays cold their metabolism will be slower and they will use up less oxygen.

I would have thought they would be safer in a plastic bag, the water will slop around a lot less than in a bowl.

You could even tie the bag with a drinking straw sticking out so you can aerate the water a few times by blowing in through the straw.
