Hi, we have a 6 year old male boxer dog, who is still almost as hyper as he was when he was a puppy. My sister keeps telling us to have him castrated to calm him down, but im wondering whether its worth putting him through it. Does that help with calming dogs down? He has also got a bit more aggressive lately, does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks!
Hi there, the vets do say castrating your dog will calm them, but that is normaly when the dog is young and yours being 6 isnt that young but your sister could be right, have a chat with your vet see what they recomend, or mayb you just have a very happy and lively dog.
sorry not much help!

My friend had a dog (Sandy) who was not castrated. He was a fighter - and he usually lost. She tried tablets from the vet that were a sort of chemical castration to see if it improved things. There was no improvment and she decided not to have his castrated.
But once the dog gets older many things become 'learned behaviour' and are no longer as a result of hormones.
Sandy died, intact, at the age of 16 and went to the doggy fighting ground in the sky where he could beat up all the male dogs and win!
