My friends cat came indoors out of the rain last night, he has a small open sore that he has been licking a lot apparantly and when I stroked him I noticed a dirty great slug attached to his open sore I removed the slug and the sore was bleeding slightly! Why is this, it made me feel sick and made my friend scream with horror ! It was horrid, cat is going to vets tomorrow.

Are you sure it was a slug and not a leech?

I would doubt very much that a slug would attach itself so firmly to a sore.
I concur with kita1, slugs are vegetarians. If it was a leech it has probably done more good than harm by removing some of the toxic blood.
If it was a Leech, (are we talking about Britain?), by removing it, you would have left its head in the wound, which, without treatment, will go sceptic,

For future reference, just on Leeches, these creatures drink their fill and fall off, with no harm done, the one thing not to do, is pick them off, you can also remove them by holding a lighted cigarette to them or something that will burn, it has to withdraw its head voluntarily.
