I am spending summer in France and had my 9 month old bitch speyed today in France. I speak little French, have never owned a female dog before and dont know what to expect. I left her with the vet at 9am, collected her at 2pm and she is still very groggy. this evening. She had a lot of blood on her legs - which was a bit of a shock and has a bandage round her middle. The vet has given me antibiotics for her for the next 3 days and said I should remove the bandage after 8 days. I said I would prefer to take her back to the surgery to have the bandage removed, just to make sure its all healed and stuff. Is this how it happens in UK?

all dogs take to anaesthetics differently, and it is not unusual for her still to be groggy this evening. Dont know why she has a large bandage around her middle though, usually just stitches which are either dissolving or removed after 8 days or so.

I had my 9 yr old dog speyed 9 days ago, I took her in at 10 and picked her up at 6 in the evening she was very groggy and slept most of the night I was told to offer water in small amounts but not to worry about food other instructions were to keep her quiet , no excercise for ten days there was no bandages or antibiotics for her to take and a very small cut in her abdomin with a large plaster which I was told to remove in a day or two within in twenty four hours she was back to her old self but not happy being confined she goes back tommorrow for her check she is now back to her old self with no problems which I am aware of as I type this She is not the right age to have a dog speyed but this had to be done on medical grounds otherwise I would not have even considered it hope this helps GypsyX

Keep her warm, quiet and make sure she can go out for pee and poo when she wants to. I always feel that once my dogs post op have been out for pee, had a good sleep, eaten (usually i give them scrambled egg) they are on their way to recovery. I expected that your vet has put a bandage on to keep wound clean. Don't worry dogs get over operations very quickly. Best of luck.Enjoy your holiday.
