Vinyl Flooring in your living room.

A few years ago, I would have thought this was a monstrous idea.
However.......................................
I am not talking about a cheap roll of lino, but a proper scratch proof, non-slip 4 mm thick vinyl about �30 per square metre. The patterns have also come on leaps and bounds in recent years.
So my question. Would this be hideous in a living room?
I am thinking of a neutral colour with some nice rugs.
Think of the advantages
1) No stains
2) No hoovering (as a broom will be used)
3) No wear and tear
4) More hygenic
5) Less bugs and spiders as they live in the sh4g
6) Warmer than natural wood

I have had vinyl flooring put down in our lounge and dining room, it looks like real wood.
It was time that made me choose it as opposed to laying laminate. these are the things I have learnt since ownership of just over a month.....
1) It is better than carpet as spills and dust can be easily picked up.
2) It didnt take long to lay
3) It looks very nice, It looks like oak
4) very easy to clean
5) dropping something doesnt echo around the house for hours!
on the negative sides, these are the things I have noticed
1) I have taken the wheels off my sofa, it can rip if there is sufficient sharp edges or even sofa wheels!
2) it feels quite hard under foot as opposed to lamintes "bouncy" type of effect
3) walking around it is fine, I do have to limit the kids toys (bikes/rollerblades/toys that dig in) are all out.
Dont get me wrong its a nice option and vinyl has come a long way since the 70's, I do think I will change it in a few years, probably for laminate.

Im curious,
1/ how messy are you that you need a floor covering that wont absorb your stains !!
2/Yeah you might not have to hoover it but would surely have to get the mop out every now and again
3/ I assume all your girlfriends wear flatties?
4/ See no's 1 & 2 for stains and mopping
5/ These have probably appeared as a result of not hoovering and all the things dropped on the floor (which are probable cause of stains!)
6/ yes indeed, and should you ever get bored of an evening you could always put some fairy liquid on your bare feet and slide accross you lounge for fun!
Why dont you get a decent wooden floor with underfloor heating?

I have an Amtico floor in my living room and hallway. It worked out at about �100 per square metre as it has to be specially fitted. I believe Amtico do a cheaper range which can be laid easily though.
